How & Why Father's Day Celebrating ?

  • Dr Mukesh Kumar Pandey     Occasion    16-06-2024

Father’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a heartfelt occasion to honor the men who shape our lives with quiet resilience, boundless support, and unconditional love. While often working behind the scenes, fathers are the foundation of many families—guiding, protecting, and nurturing in ways that often go unspoken.

The roots of Father’s Day trace back to the early 20th century in the United States. Inspired by the success of Mother’s Day, Sonora Smart Dodd initiated the idea in 1910 to celebrate her father, a Civil War veteran who raised six children alone. What began as a small, personal gesture has now blossomed into a global celebration of fatherhood.

Every third Sunday of June, families around the world come together to acknowledge and appreciate the role of fathers and father figures—be it biological dads, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, teachers, or mentors. It’s a moment to pause and say, “Thank you,” for the sacrifices, life lessons, and quiet strength they bring into our lives.

Fathers often express love differently than mothers. Where a mother’s love may be more nurturing and emotional, a father’s love is often protective and practical. From teaching us how to ride a bike to staying up late during exam nights, from their tough love to their gentle guidance—fathers shape our confidence and character.

Celebrating Father’s Day can be as simple or as grand as one wishes. A handwritten note, a homemade gift, a day out fishing, or just spending quality time together can mean the world to a dad. The goal is not the size of the gift but the sincerity behind it.

As we celebrate, let’s also remember those fathers who are no longer with us, and those who may have played the fatherly role without a formal title. Their legacy lives on in the values, strength, and kindness they passed on.

This Father’s Day, take a moment to reflect on the unique bond you share with your father. Let him know he’s seen, appreciated, and loved—not just today, but every day.
